New construction of the café bars
In the course of a renovation measure, the approx. 30-year-old northeast facade of exhibition hall 1, which was implemented by the architectural firm Murphy & Jahn, was renewed. Furthermore, the existing café in the exhibition hall was redesigned and brought into line with another, newly built café. For the seating, the architectural office geiseler gergull architekten, which was commissioned for the new building, opted for two models from KFF in different seat heights.

Hall 1 is the only trade fair hall in Frankfurt that creates a direct link to the city through the trade fair entrance on Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage. By extending the bay window to the outside, two cafés have been created here, one above the other. With areas spanning several floors, a space-forming framework is set that creates a great long-distance effect, both within the hall and in the direction of the city - the »window to the city«.
The two café areas feature several nested spaces that offer seating at both high-dining and dining heights. Organic shapes brought in by the GAIA chair, along with the round representative of ASCO's Modul_plus system tables, are broken by cubist variations of the tables arranged at right angles. The Maverick chair, together with its high-backed brother, the counter chair, warms up the loft character of the architecturally expressive space.
In gentle contrast to the signal color that adorns the walls, the seating furniture from KFF was used in shallow shades of blue. The warm wooden surface of the tables plays off the cool concrete floor. In the redesign, the seating areas were moved out of the exhibition areas, to the new glazing. The cafés advance to a viewing platform and quiet zone, within the turbulent trade fair activity.
The project won the ICONIC Awards 2021: Innovative Architecture-Winner in the Interior-Hospitality category at the ICONIC Awards 2021, hosted by the German Design Council.
